What is dueling?

Dueling is Miki's turn-based card battle system where you pit your card parties against other players. There are two modes to choose from: Friendly duels for casual, no-stakes fun, and Ranked duels for competitive, ELO-based ladder climbing. The best part? Battles are fully automatic. Your cards fight using their abilities on their own, so you get to sit back and watch the action unfold!

Getting started

Before you can duel, you'll need a few things:

  • Cards in your collection. You can get these by pulling with /cards pull or through trading.
  • A party of up to 4 cards assembled into a team using /cards party new <name> <card1> [card2] [card3] [card4].

Both you and your opponent need parties set up in order to duel. If you're brand new, don't worry! The onboarding tutorial walks you through creating a party and fighting your first duel as part of the learning steps.

For more details on cards and parties, check out our expeditions guide which covers the basics of card pulling and party creation.

Friendly duels

Friendly duels are the perfect way to learn how battles work without any pressure. Challenge any non-bot user with /cards duel friendly @user and their defender party is used automatically, so they don't need to confirm anything.

Results are recorded in your duel history, but they won't affect your ranked rating. Think of friendly duels as your training ground for testing party compositions before you step into ranked play!

Ranked duels

Ready to compete? Use /cards duel ranked and the system will find you an opponent near your current rating through automatic matchmaking. During the fight, you'll see your predicted rating gain or loss in the footer.

Here's what you need to know about ranked:

  • ELO-based system: everyone starts at 1,000 rating.
  • 2-minute cooldown between ranked matches.
  • Win streaks give you bonus ELO, up to +10% at a 10+ win streak! 🔥
  • Wins and losses count toward achievement progress.

How battles work

Once a duel starts, the battle plays out automatically. Here's how it works:

  • Turn-based: Cards take turns based on their initiative stat. Higher initiative means your card acts sooner.
  • Automatic: Each card picks an ability to use on its turn. You watch the replay as it happens!
  • Max 25 turns: If neither party is knocked out by turn 25, the defender wins.
  • The battle updates in real-time with embeds refreshing every 7 seconds per turn.
  • Each card displays an HP bar with status icons so you can follow the action at a glance.

Card classes

Each card belongs to one of three classes, and each class brings something different to the battlefield:

Class Strengths
DPS Higher critical strike chance (15%). Best for raw damage output.
Tank Bonus physical & magical armor (+20 each). Lower crit (5%). Great at absorbing hits.
Support 25% bonus magic attack. Higher initiative (rolls 1–150 vs 1–100). Lower crit (5%). Excels at healing and buffs.

Mixing classes in your party is key. A balanced team with a DPS, Tank, Support, and a flex pick tends to perform really well.

Abilities overview

Your cards come with abilities that they'll use in battle. Here's a quick rundown of what's available:

Offensive abilities

Ability Effect
Attack Basic physical hit dealing 100% ATK damage.
Fire Bolt 90% magic damage with a 50% chance to burn (10% magic DoT for 3 turns).
Lightning Bolt 60% magic damage with a 60% chance to chain to another enemy for half damage (chains up to 3 times).
Magic Bolt 75% magic damage to 2 random enemies.
Frost Nova 50% magic AoE with a 40% chance to chill (−20 initiative for 2 turns).
Rend 80% physical damage + bleed (15% physical DoT that halves healing for 2 turns).
Supersonic 50% physical damage + permanent +10 initiative.

Supportive abilities

Ability Effect
Heal Restores 85% of magic attack as HP to an injured ally.
Heal All Restores 75% of magic attack as HP to the entire party.
Clarity Removes a negative status effect from an ally.

Defensive & utility abilities

Ability Effect
Shell Up Grants +30 physical armor and +15 magical armor for 3 turns (stacks up to 3×).
Interject Redirects 75% of damage from the lowest HP ally to the caster for 3 turns (caster takes 50% of the redirected amount).
Surge Grants +25% crit chance and +50% crit damage for 2 turns.

Equipment

Cards can equip items that boost their stats: HP, Physical Attack, Magic Attack, Physical Defense, Magic Defense, Initiative, Crit Chance, and Crit Damage. Equipment bonuses stack with base stats and any active status effects, so gearing up your cards can make a real difference in battle!

Ranking system

As you climb the ranked ladder, you'll progress through tiers and ranks:

Tier Ranks Rating Range
🥉 Bronze I → IV 0 – 999
🥈 Silver I → IV 1,000 – 1,399
🥇 Gold I → IV 1,400 – 1,699
💎 Crystal I → IV 1,800 – 2,199
⭐ Star I → IV 2,200 – 2,599
🌟 Superstar - 2,600+

Each rank has a unique icon displayed on your profile. Climb high and show it off!

Ranked seasons & rewards

Ranked seasons run monthly, from the 1st to the end of each month. Use /cards duel season to check your current season stats including your W/L record, rating, peak rating, and win streak (shown with a 🔥 indicator).

You need a minimum of 5 ranked matches to qualify for end-of-season rewards. At the end of each season, your rating gets a soft reset that moves it halfway back toward 1,000.

Season tier rewards

Based on your peak rating during the season, you'll earn:

Tier Mekos Card Pulls
Bronze 500 0
Silver 1,500 1
Gold 3,000 2
Crystal 6,000 4
Star 10,000 7
Superstar 15,000 10

Placement bonuses

On top of tier rewards, the top players earn extra bonuses:

Placement Bonus Mekos Bonus Pulls Title
🥇 #1 25,000 15 Season Champion
🥈 #2–3 15,000 10 Season Top 3
🥉 #4–10 5,000 5 Season Top 10

All rewards are mailed to your in-game mailbox. Check your mail after the season ends!

Leaderboard & duel profile

Want to see how you stack up? Use /cards duel leaderboard to view the top 10 players, complete with medals (🥇🥈🥉), peak ratings, ranks, and W/L records. The top 10 earn exclusive title rewards at the end of each season.

To check your own stats, use /cards duel profile. It shows your lifetime W/L stats across all modes, your current ranked tier with its icon, and a per-mode breakdown for both Friendly and Ranked play.

Tips for new players

  • Start with friendly duels to learn how battles work before jumping into ranked.
  • Mix your classes. A balanced comp (DPS + Tank + Support + flex) tends to perform the best.
  • Supports are powerful. Their higher initiative and healing abilities make them invaluable in longer fights.
  • Tanks with Shell Up can become extremely hard to kill when the armor stacks up.
  • Don't forget equipment! Upgrading your cards' gear gives meaningful stat boosts.
  • Watch for status effects. Bleed (from Rend) reduces healing by 50%, which is great for countering heal-heavy teams.
  • Ride your win streaks. The bonus ELO from consecutive wins can accelerate your climb significantly.
